Just Say No
Well, my first writing retreat was a disaster in so many ways.
I did not stay for the week because in the end, it was just not right. I was only there for a little over a day. I didn’t have a chance to write like I had hoped, but I did have the chance to choose the right path for my writing.
The good that came from this experience was that it strengthened my resolve to stay true to myself, to be the writer I desire to be, and to not conform to societal standards and conventions that I do not believe in. It strengthened my personal goals and reasons for writing ♥
I was reminded by a friend that God works in all things for the good and that the answer is often not what we expect. I expected to have much needed time away to write but the most writing that I did was at the airport waiting for my flight to go home.
The ending to this story isn’t what I expected but it was the right choice for many reasons. It was just not where I was supposed to be. His plan is always better ✞
Best advice from this experience- If a writing retreat, or any event, doesn’t reflect who you are or the person you desire to be, stay true to yourself even if that means taking a stand and walking away. Walking away is sometimes the first step in the right direction.
