MFA Graduation
I have officially completed the MFA program in Creative Writing!
I am truly thankful for this program and its writing community. I learned so much about the technical aspects of writing, the professional writing community, and publishing ecosystem. The MFA consisted of an intense 48 credits, but all of the hard work was worth it when I look at how much I have grown in my writing career over the course of the program.
While I had my favorite courses, such as the Thesis courses and Writing Short Works, I greatly appreciated the business courses as well. The business courses provided insight into the professional realm that I did not know the depth of before the program. This track also allowed me to graduate with not only an MFA degree but also a certificate in professional writing.
The curriculum was incredibly valuable in my writing career. The projects I completed for the program helped provide the portfolio needed to land a traditional publishing contract for my three-book New Adult series, The Emerald Isle University Series. While Teagan's Treasure, the first book in the series, was not my thesis, it was a story that I loved writing throughout that time. I used the template from the artifacts in my portfolio for Sadie's Star for my queries and proposals for Teagan's Treasure. I have books releasing for the series in the spring of 2024, 2025, and 2026 through Vinspire Publishing. Sadie’s Star is scheduled to release in the fall of 2024, along with an adult novel in the summer of 2025. I am excited for these upcoming stories and so grateful for the opportunity to share my writing in this way.
To me success means living a life that I am proud of and helping to make the world a better place. If I can make a difference in my reader's lives while following God’s plan for my life, then I consider that to be success.
This is the first time in about thirty-five years that I haven't been in school, so I am taking a much-needed break. I am a life-long learner and can't wait to discover where God leads me next!
